Vintage Italian Nine-Drawer Commode Attributed to Vittorio Dassi, 1950s

A vintage Italian nine-drawer commode attributed to Vittorio Dassi, dating to the 1950s. Its long, low case is defined by a strongly figured wood veneer arranged in a graphic chevron composition across the drawer fronts, framed by a contrasting dark molded surround. Brass ring pulls punctuate the façade, while a glass top adds a further layer of material contrast.

The nine-drawer configuration gives the piece an unusually balanced architectural presence while providing generous storage. Slender splayed legs lift the cabinet from the floor, tempering its substantial proportions and giving the overall form a distinctly light profile.

The combination of decorative veneer work, brass detailing and disciplined proportions is closely associated with the sophisticated Italian cabinetmaking of the postwar period and with the furniture produced by Vittorio Dassi and his Milanese workshop.

Restoration & Provenance

Carefully sourced in Italy and restored in-house at our gallery in Rabat. The cabinet structure, drawers and original veneer were inspected and preserved wherever possible, with the wooden surfaces cleaned and refinished only where required. The brass hardware and glass top were retained and carefully treated.

Minor age-related traces remain consistent with the period and are documented in the photographs. Professionally packed for secure international delivery.
